Founded in the year 1973, Kilimanjaro National Park is home to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point of Africa. It is one of the most accessible peaks in the world standing at 5,895 meters/19,340 feet above sea level, comprising of three volcanic cones; Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Kibo, also known as Uhuru peak is the highest of the three. The Shira Plateau gives a traveler the opportunity to hike the great Kilimanjaro mountain, a World heritage site, as a single day trip.
Though Mt. Kilimanjaro is situated near the equator, its peak is always covered with snow because it is located at the height of 5,895 meters/19,340 feet. The heaviest months for snow fall are November through March.
The mountain has a rainforest inhabited by Colobus Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Grass Mouse etc.
Kilimanjaro National park is home to a variety of wildlife animals including elephants, antelopes, and cape buffaloes. Its rainforest is inhabited by colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, the grass mouse and many other species of wildlife.
