Day 1: MOMELA GATE -MIRIAKAMBA HUTS
Elevation: 1597m to 2500m
Distance: 13.8 km
Hiking Time 7 -8 Hours
After breakfast, depart from Moshi or Arusha at about 8:30am and drive to Momella gate. Make payment and start the climb with picnic lunch, then hike for about 7- 8 hours to the first hut- Miriakamba hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: MIRIAKAMBA HUTS – SADDLE HUTS
Elevation: 2500m to 3500m
Distance: 6 km
Hiking Time 3 – 4 Hours
After breakfast we proceed with a climb to the second hut called Saddle. This is a steep part compared to the first part. During the afternoon, climbers will trek the little Meru peak and back for dinner and overnight at Saddle hut.
Day 3: SADDLE HUT- SUMMIT: 5.5km – DESCEND TO SADDLE HUT-MOMELLA
Elevation: 3500m to 4566m – Descent to 1597m
Distance: 5.5 km
Hiking Time 11 ½ (Eleven and half hours)
Wake up at midnight and have a cup of tea with some candies before starting the attempt for big Meru peak. Proceed to summit crossing rocky path via Rhino point to the Socialist Peak (4566m). Then back to Saddle hut for full breakfast or brunch and rest before proceeding down to Momella gate where you will say goodbye to your mountain team, tip them and receive your certificates. After that you will embark the vehicle and transfer to your booked hotel/lodge in Moshi or Arusha to have long hot shower, relax, dinner and overnight.
