Day 1: MOMELA GATE -MIRIAKAMBA HUTS
Elevation: 1597m to 2500m
Distance: 13.8 km
Hiking Time 7-8 Hours
After breakfast depart from Moshi or Arusha at about 8:30 am. Then drive to Momella gate, make payment and start the climb with picnic lunch. The hike is for about 7-8 hours to the first hut – Miriakamba hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: MIRIAKAMBA HUTS – SADDLE HUTS
Elevation: 2500m to 3500m
Distance: 6 km
Hiking Time 3-4 Hours
After breakfast we proceed with a climb to the second hut called Saddle. This is a steep part compared to the first part. During the afternoon, clients will trek to the little Meru peak and back for dinner and overnight at Saddle hut.
Day 3: SADDLE HUT- SUMMIT – DESCEND TO SADDLE HUT-MIRIAKAMBA
Elevation: 3500m to 4566m – Descent to 2500m
Distance: 5.5 km
Hiking Time 9 ½ (Nine and half hours)
Wake up at midnight and have a cup of tea with some candies before starting the attempt for big Meru peak. Proceed to summit crossing rocky path via Rhino point to the Socialist Peak (4566m)and back to Saddle hut for full breakfast or brunch and rest. Then proceed to Mirikamba hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: MIRIAKAMBA – MOMELLA GATE: 6.5km
Elevation: 2500m to 1597m
Distance: 6.5 km
Hiking Time 3 Hours
After early breakfast we depart Miriakamba hut and descend down to Momella gate for your certificates and tipping your mountain team. Thereafter, we board the vehicle and drive to Arusha or Moshi to your booked hotel/lodge for hot shower, relax, dinner and overnight.
